Disc front fork

ER world,
When I bought my TE we talked about using an alternate fork ER has that is disc brake compatible. It apparently does have a somewhat different geometry. I have a bit of a climb on a fairly busy street on my commute home, and therefore low speed stability was a core desire. Now, half way through a winter of commuting on the TE a couple of things are evident, the TE is a great, all weather commuter - and a front disc to go along with back disc would really be great. So, does anyone have any experience with the disc compatible fork and if so can they comment of the relative handling of the standard (excellent) fork and the disc compatible fork. Thanks.

leverage

Besides the handling issue:

Assuming the same fork length, and disk brakes, I _think_ a small wheel is going to put more stress on the fork than a large one. Certainly the forces on the fork will be different with different wheel sizes.

OTOH it may be that the because the front wheel is lightly loaded, it may skid before it puts enough additional force on the fork to be an issue.

I am going to disagree with your conclusion. The expense of the front disk brake will not be recovered in improved performance. You may enjoy some additional precision in braking but the TE's stopping power is all in the rear. The only thing you must not do is lock up the front.

I've got about 5k on my Rans Stratus XP with disks on its dual 26 wheels. The disks were already on the bike, I would not have ordered them. I've got 35k on my TE and I have never even thought about putting disk brakes on her.

We've come to recognize that a disc brake on the front end of an Easy Racer can have its advantages. While it is certainly not something that is necessary for most riders (a front v-brake paired with a rear disc brake, especially one with a larger rotor, is more stopping power than most two-wheeled recumbent riders will ever need), we'll admit that a matching front/rear brake set has a certain aesthetic appeal. Also, a front disc brake is added peace of mind for those that often traverse through wicked weather/road conditions.
That said, take a look at our new Cromo Steel Disc Brake Fork:

Unlike, previous incarnations, this version maintains the same geometry as our standard cro-mo steel fork. Each fork is powder coated in your choice of colors (match it to your frame or choose a contrasting color for a unique look). It will accept either a 451 or 406 front wheels and the tabs work with Avid, Shimano, and most other widely available mechanical disc brake calipers.

The fork (in whatever "standard" color you'd like) retails for $250.
It is also a $450 upgrade to any new Easy Racer (upgrade includes complete Avid BB7 disc brake and wheel built with disc compatible front hub).

The new fork is beautiful. You're creating as much demand as satisfying one.

And yet we've all gotten along just fine for decades with calipers and linears.

Elegant engineering, congratulations to your design team. And I hope it is a great seller. If my front fork every dies, and I don't go with it, I'll get one.

If you can chrome one to match my polished Gold Rush, I'll make the switch when I wear out my front rim.

We don't regularly have things chromed but we are able to. It would be a special order but, give us a call if you decide to go that route. We'll make it happen.
