10-spd setup for TE/GR/Ti-Rush frame: problems?

I am planning to put a new drivetrain on a frame. Are there any inherent problems in using a 10-spd setup with an Easy Racer TE/GR/Ti-Rush frame?

Does anyone use a 10spd setup with this frame?
Thanks!
Bob

it can be done

Hey Bob,

It can be done and has been. The problem for most people will be the fact that standard 10 speed gearing can be a little limiting depending on what you plan to do.

You have to figure out if the gears will be low enough for you. For flat lander I think it can be done. In fact a 53X39 chain wheels hooked up to a 11X27 cassette will work unless you plan to climb a lot.

The beauty of the set up is that it works together quite well. Shifting is flawless.

Last year two carbon bikes went out of here equipped with full Shimano Dura Ace 10 speed road groups on them, complete with the STI shifters.

If you live in the hills or ride the hills a lot, you better be a strong rider or else it probably won't work out to well

Both SRAM and Shimano make 11-36t 10-speed cassettes nowadays. You'll need a new rear derailleur that is compatible with 36t. And the old 9-speed triple cranksets work just fine with 10-speed chains. In fact, when Shimano first came out with the 10-speed cranksets, they called them "9/10 speeds".

My GRR has a 34-44-54 custom crankset (the 34t ring is from a 10-speed system, the others are 9-speed ones), and a 11-34t 10-speed cassette. Works fine. I might go with the 11-36t cassette someday once my current chain & cassette wear out, but will have to decide if the additional cost of the new rear derailleur is worth it.

Thanks Freddy and Joao....

I appreciate your input as I will be dealing with these questions in the future.

As it turns out, the bike that I just purchased arrived with a setup that is in great shape. I am lucky, as all of the components are in great shape. Cannot wait to get out and ride this weekend.
Many thanks,
Bob
